10TH FESTIVAL OF PACIFIC ARTS – AMERICAN SAMOA

In preparation for the 10th Festival of Pacific Arts, the Personnel Committee is charged with recruiting volunteer staff.  We are looking for people who are willing to share any extra tasks that come outside of his/her specific responsibilities, and have a flexible attitude.  Dedication and Teamwork are the key factors in the success of this festival.  Working long hours and “thinking Festival” are essential.  If you are this person, then we are looking for you to volunteer.

The Personnel Committee of the 10th Festival of Pacific Arts announces the following temporary volunteer positions.  The deadline for filing the application is January 31, 2008. Interested persons should be available to attend Trainings in the months of February and March.  Work will actually begin on July 21st to August 2nd 2008.

Liaison Officers:  will be assigned an island country to host in terms of the following responsibilities:

facilitate between the Festival Committee and the VIPs/delegations;

  • greet and accompany the VIPs and delegations to/from the airport to their housing quarters upon arrival and departure,  
  • inform delegations of their daily schedule,
  • accompany VIPs and delegations to the performance sites,
  • act as a tour guide when on tour of the island,
  • be the information directory for his/her respective delegation,
  • understand the delegation you’re serving and to serve the requirements of the delegations,
  • report any problems that may arise to immediate supervisor,

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or higher, and at least one year of experience in customer service,
  • have some knowledge of the native language and culture of the delegation they will be serving,
  • speak fluent English and Samoan Language,
  • must have knowledge of the history and culture of American Samoa,
  • must be willing to attend the prerequisite trainings – attendance is mandatory,
  • expect to work long hours,

Drivers:   We are looking for reliable and responsible drivers who will be                          responsible for the following;

  • drive/transport the VIPs and/or Delegations to and from the airport,
  • drive/transport the VIPs and/or Delegations to and from the venues for the festival activities, and to the housing quarters or hotels,
  • keep vehicles clean at all times,
  • keep up with vehicle maintenance to make sure it is ready and safe for use at all times,
  • transport supplies and materials for the Festival to and from any assigned location,
  • report any problems or accidents immediately to the supervisor,

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or Higher
  • Possess a valid drivers license & Commercial certificate
  • Driving record from the court of not more than 12 points,
  • Supporting documents of the minimum five years of experience in operating a six wheel or larger,
  • Communicate clearly in English,
  • 21 years of age and older, 
  • expect to work long hours,

Interpreter:     We are looking for interpreters in the French and Spanish language.
Responsibilities are as follows:

  • Provides oral or written translation of information in French and/or Spanish language to the English language and vice versa.
  • onsite translation for various presentations,
  • Provide translation during official meetings of the Board and its subcommittees.

Requirement:

  • High School Diploma or higher
  • Fluent in French
  • Fluent in English
  • Fluent in Spanish

Housekeeping/Maintenance:      We would like to invite individuals and organizations to volunteer for Housekeeping and Maintenance work..  Organizations will be assigned to different performance venues to be responsible for cleaning up the areas and keeping the surroundings litter free, decorate assigned area, do any necessary set-up, and make sure that the place would be ready for the next activities. 

Security:           We would like to invite individuals and security agencies who may be interested in performing security duties for the Festival to apply or contact our office for more information.
